14 Years Today

  • January 1, 2025

It was 14 years ago today that I started tripleNERDscore. It started as me, freelancing, just to get enough money to pay for Christmas presents. We did websites, custom songs, and other varied little things. It paid for Christmas for a number of years.

It was 5 years and 6 months since I heard Justin Jackson give an eye-opening, life changing talk at Laracon in NYC. So many walked out of that talk on their way to explore the city or get food. I walked out with a plan (really, concepts of a plan at that point). I spent a bunch of time over the next three months thinking about what it would mean to go full time with TNS. It was time to do what I could do well: Do good by building the web for people.

And today, 5 years ago, I went full time. I had one steady paycheck left before I was leaving the company I was at, and spent hours and hours before and after my day job selling and finding leads. It's been a wild journey, working through a global pandemic months after we started, building a team from scratch, learning how to run a business with no training. Besides thousands of hours delivering, it's been endless training and learning and failing and crying and growing. We have worked with single person start ups and Fortune 100s. We have built tiny little marketing sites, fun little internal projects, and have touched apps that you use on the daily. We're built products for the ExpressionEngine community, and acquired Karani for Fundraising (with some big changes coming this year).

According to the SBA, around 50% of businesses fail before the 5 year mark. I am eternally grateful to the team, mentors, partners, and clientele, that have helped us get to this point and beat the odds. Looking forward to every celebration point we get to celebrate together this year!
